The plan is pretty simple really. To travel to each of the 15
National Parks in the UK, run 26.2 miles off road, up hills and mountains, over moors and along coasts, whilst exploring and measuring science along the way. All within the 30 days of September.
The planning on the other hand was a lot more involved than we initially thought!
To give us some idea of the logistics that we would need to organise, we set out a preliminary itinerary of when and where each run should take place. Starting in the South, we decided on an order that will hopefully allow our legs, and bodies, to be fully warmed up by the time we hit the mountains of the North! You can view all our planned routes by clicking on the links in the table below.
After deciding the visiting order of the National Parks, we felt confident enough to announce our plans to friends and families. We gauged their reactions and thankfully found a huge amount of encouragement and offers of support for our mad-capped challenge. The next stage was to approach the Education Officers of each National Park, to identify areas of collaboration for new resources and to build on existing ones, with strong scientific links to the curriculum. Again, the response was incredibly supportive, with strong suggestions of research ideas that would suit all parties.
